You can think of a as a kind of attribute, but instead of describing a single case, it describes the collection as a whole, such as median height, maximum income, or proportion of females. Typically, you use it to compute something from the values of the attributes. An example is shown here. A collection consists of two dice with an attribute face. A measure, SumFaces, has been defined to give the total of the faces.
