Fathom’s idea of a simulation is that there is some random process (usually either a collection with randomly generated values or a sample collection). One or more results are calculated as measures. By allowing the random process to run multiple times, you can collect a bunch of results (that is, collect measures). You can display the results with the hope of characterizing the random process. A schematic of this is shown here.

There are many ways to build simulations in Fathom, but they all follow this basic pattern. Below is a simple coin-flipping simulation in which the results are the number of heads when three coins are flipped.
