You can’t type or paste words directly into empty document space; text goes in a text object.

1.Drag a text object from the shelf into your document or use the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-T (Win),
z-Shift-T (Mac).
2.Type or paste text there.

Resize a text object by dragging an edge or corner; move it by dragging the top of its frame.

If a text object is empty, it will have a gray border around it when it isn’t selected to remind you where it is.

If necessary, choose Edit | Show Text Palette for formatting controls and special characters (see Format Text in Text Objects or Show/Hide Text Palette).
