How To... > Work with Collections > Get Data into Fathom

There are many ways to get data into Fathom collections, depending on what data you want and what form it is in. You can copy and Paste Data into a Collection or Import Data from a Text File or Import Data from the Internet. To import data from other programs, such as spreadsheets or databases, you must first export the data to a tab-delimited text file. Fathom also provides access to U.S. census data from the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) Web site at the University of Minnesota; see Import U.S. Census Microdata from IPUMS.

To type data, use a case table (see Enter Data from Scratch for detailed instructions).

You can also Generate Random Values. See Random Functions for the list of random functions. Have Fathom Randomly Generate Data is an introductory tutorial on coin flipping. Also see Simulation Examples.
