We build models to understand things in the real world and to make predictions about them (thus, the crystal ball). The linear models that Fathom provides as statistical objects are geared to work with continuous attributes under the assumption that there is a linear relationship between a response attribute and one or more predictor attributes.

The simple regression model is actually a subset of the multiple regression model; that is, you don’t need to put more than one predictor attribute in a multiple regression model, and if the model only has one attribute, it’s equivalent to a simple regression model.
